Bars you can drag
Move or stretch a bar with the mouse and dates update for everyone.
Online Gantt chart
A Gantt chart lays a project’s tasks out on a timeline and shows which ones are waiting on others. In Omega Work it’s the “Timeline” view: it’s drawn from the tasks you already have, you link dependencies with the mouse, and when a bar moves you see straight away what slips after it. The same project stays readable as a list, a board and a calendar.
What it is
A Gantt chart answers one question: will we make the date? Each task is a bar as long as it lasts; arrows connect tasks that can’t start until another one finishes; milestones mark the key moments (the delivery, the launch, the client review).
Online means the Gantt chart isn’t a file someone has to update: it is the project. When someone completes a task or moves a due date, the timeline is already up to date for everyone.
How to build one
What’s inside
Move or stretch a bar with the mouse and dates update for everyone.
A task waiting on another shows an arrow: if the first slips, you know straight away what it takes with it.
The project’s key moments marked on the timeline.
Who does what is right there on the timeline; the workload view tells you whether that person can manage it that week.
Start from a template project and the dates recalculate from the start date you choose.
List, Kanban board and calendar: switch views and the data stays the same.
Versus a spreadsheet
| Gantt chart in a spreadsheet | Gantt chart in Omega Work | |
|---|---|---|
| Who keeps it up to date | One person, by hand | Anyone who completes or moves a task |
| Dependencies | Drawn, not calculated | Linked: if one slips, you see what it takes with it |
| Who does what | A column to keep in sync | The task’s assignee, who gets notified |
| Versions | The latest file, hopefully | Just one, always current |
| Cost | Already paid for | £19 a month for up to 5 people, excl. tax |
A spreadsheet is perfectly fine for a small project that one person updates. Once five people are involved, an online timeline saves the weekly round of “is this still right?”.
Questions
List the project’s tasks with a start date, a due date and an assignee, open the timeline view, link dependencies by dragging from one bar to the next, and mark the milestones. In Omega Work the bars are created from the tasks you already have, and they stay up to date as the team completes or moves work.
In practice they describe the same thing: the schedule is the list of tasks with their dates, and the Gantt chart is how it looks on a timeline, with the dependencies between tasks drawn in.
Yes, in every plan: from £19 a month for up to 5 people, excluding tax, with timeline, dependencies, milestones, dashboards and workload. In many project tools the timeline sits on the higher-priced plans.
